The Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB), which is in charge of ports, coasts, and harbours, has planned to take charge of the Bandra promenade and to give it a facelift. From next month, you can expect to see a lot of repair and beautification work at Bandra’s Carter Road promenade which is going to get new triangular paver blocks and tiling.

The plan that was sketched by architect PK Das’ consultancy, follows strengthening the promenade with a new retaining wall and fixing dilapidated parts. An MMB official told that the tender will be floated next week.

After meeting with the local residents and the MMB officials, MLA Ashish Shelar arrived at the decision of initiating the project by March 15. He said the work on building the retaining or protecting wall at sea face will be completed before the monsoon and the entire beautification work by November.

Fixing 350 metres of the promenade will cost around ₹1.7 crore.  ₹4.75 crore has been set aside by the MMB for the new retaining wall and tiling work on the entire promenade.

The former contractor’s improper tiling and incomplete work had left residents hassles. The local residents are in a hope that the new project will be completed in time.

Besides the promenade, Bandra’s first yoga park, whose civil work is completed, will be finally open by March-end. The park is now going through landscaping work and was supposed to be ready to use on January 26.

The open space at Bandra Reclamation will have posters and sculptures of different yoga positions on the embankment wall. It will also have vertical greenery, a stormwater drain and a set-up to harvest rainwater.
