Now, people will have to pay more for a heritage tour of the 136-year-old Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), a UNESCO world heritage site. The Central Railway (CR) has hiked the ticket rates from INR 50 to INR 500 per person after it awarded a contract to Raconteur Tours who will be conducting the heritage tours and will streamline the booking process by teaming up with BookMyShow. Students will have to shell out INR 150 instead of INR 20 for the tour.

This year, the CR reduced the heritage tour fee to INR 50 from INR 200 in January to attract more visitors to the station. Since the heritage tour started in 2016, the CR had fixed the tour fee at INR 200.

“The private operator has been appointed since March this year for a period of five years. This partnership with ‘BookMyShow’ aims to streamline the booking process, allowing visitors to easily secure their tour tickets,” stated a Central Railway official. For the contracted period, the CR has already collected ₹10 lakh as licence fees.

“Licensees have been allowed to set up a reception kiosk for the purposes like welcoming tourists and issuing necessary passes, identity cards and guidance,” said a CR official.

A valid ID card copy such as a passport, Aadhar card, or driving licence is mandatory for all visitors to enjoy the tour.
