Potholes have always been one of the major problems faced by the people of Mumbai, especially during the monsoons. For many years now, Mumbaikars have complained about the poor state of roads, and expect the repair work to be completed before the rains hit the city, however, these complaints are not addressed often.

With an aim to make roads better in some wards of Mumbai, Minister for Textiles, Ports, Fisheries and Guardian Minister of Mumbai, Aslam Sheikh, has asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to complete the repair work in Goregaon and Malad-Malvani area, as this would help clear the traffic congestion. He stated that new roads are needed, since the general public is facing many issues with regards to the daily commute and has asked the BMC officials to work on the same, at the earliest.

During the monsoon, Mumbaikars have been sarcastically comparing the potholes with the 'craters on the moon' as roads are filled with numerous small and big potholes across the city. Residents in this area have complained about the injuries caused because of the same on Link Road, Veer Savarkar Marg, Western Expressway, Aarey Colony etc. Not only do they pose danger, but drivers also have to spend extra time on roads as the commute time slows down. Furthermore, two-wheeler riders are falling into these and these roads have become highly accident-prone. As a result, there is a constant demand from the residents that these roads should be repaired immediately.

A meeting was held recently to discuss the same, and present at the meeting were Vijay Ballamwar of Municipal Corporation, Assistant Commissioner S. S. Kabre, Executive Engineer Girish Nikam, Senior Architect D. R. Bidwe, Assistant Commissioner (Roads) S.P. Ambrey, U. C. Korgaonkar, and others. The meeting was chaired by Aslam Sheikh and members discussed problems like road works, road widening etc. in Goregaon and Malad areas.

Aslam Sheikh also asked the members to work on removing encroachments on government lands in the area, on an immediate basis.
