The death toll in the Ghatkopar billboard hoarding incident has risen up to 14, a latest update on Tuesday, May 14 stated.
As per reports shared by National Disaster Rescue Force, 74, who are rescued alive have been injured after a 100-feet-tall illegal billboard fell in Mumbai's Ghatkopar during a dust storm and rain on Monday evening, May 13. This development came after the rescue team conducted search operation till this morning. Owing to this, there was a massive traffic jam on Eastern Express Highway towards Mulund.
Yesterday (13 May) evening, in the Chheda Nagar area of Ghatkopar, a tragic incident occurred due to speedy winds, resulting in the collapse of a hoarding.

Case registered against the hoarding owner
A case has been registered in Pantnagar police station against Bhavesh Bhide, the owner of M/s Ego Media Private Limited, and others who put up hoardings in connection with the Ghatkopar accident.
CM Eknath Shinde's Stance
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered an inquiry into the Ghatkopar hoarding incident. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited the Ghatkopar accident site and inspected it.
The CM has also announced an aid of 5 lakh rupees to the families of those who died in this accident. Additionally, the government will bear the expenses for the treatment of the injured.
Meanwhile, the President of India Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar have also condoled the death and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Were the hoardings unauthorised?
It is being alleged that the hoarding that fell in Ghatkopar was illegal. The municipality allows only 40 ft × 40 ft hoarding. However, the collapsed hoarding, which was located at railway site, is reported to be 120 feet × 120 feet.
