The expert committee formed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to take a decision regarding the reconstruction of the Malabar Hill Reservoir will inspect the reservoir on Thursday, December 7. An IIT expert committee comprising Powai professors, local expert citizens, municipal officials will conduct an internal inspection of Kappa No. 2 in the Malabar Hill Reservoir. Therefore, the tank number 2 of the reservoir will have to be emptied and due to this, water will be cut in many parts of the city and water supply will have to be interrupted in some places.

The issue of reconstruction of the Malabar Hill Reservoir, which supplies water to the entire South Mumbai, has been raging for the past few months. This 136-year-old reservoir was built in 1887 below the Hanging Garden i.e. Feroz Shah Mehta Park. But if this reservoir is reconstructed, 389 trees will be affected. Also the park will have to be closed for seven years. Therefore, the residents and environmentalists have opposed the reconstruction of this park.

Therefore, the options of rebuilding or repairing this reservoir have started to be discussed. Guardian Minister and South Mumbai MLA Mangalprabhat Lodha had also called a citizens' meeting to take a decision on this. A committee of citizens was also formed. However, due to no solution, the municipal administration formed a review committee last month. The expert committee will conduct an internal inspection of the reservoir during this 2-hour period on Thursday, December 7, from 8 am to 10 am.
