To provide uninterrupted water supply until June to Panvel citizens, the Panvel Municipal Corporation will cut water supply once a week. This will be done between December 8 and June 15 and the municipality has announced the information about this through a press release. Therefore, Panvelkar will have to conserve water for the next seven months. Panvelkars have been facing water shortage for many years.

Due to the expansion of Panvel, the residents of Panvel have been experiencing severe water shortage for the past several years. Since the capacity of the Appasaheb Vedak Reservoir (Dehrang Dam) owned by the former Panvel Municipal Council is 3.5 million cubic metres, the municipality has to get water from other authorities on a loan basis, as the abundant water needed to quench the thirst of the people of Panvel is not available from this dam. Panvelkar needs 32 ten lakh litres (MLD) of water. 16 MLD from Dehrang Dam and 11 MLD from Maharashtra Life Authority (MJP) and 5 MLD from Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) are supplied to Panvelkar.

While water is supplied from Patalganga river which is supplied to Panvel from MJP and MIDC, less water is available on every Sunday and Monday of the week. Also, at other times also due to shutdown for technical repair work and other repair works, Panvel is frequently short of water supply, so more water has to be pumped from Dehrang Dam to quench the city's thirst. But due to the fear that the water storage in the dam will run out in the summer if more is pumped now, the municipal corporation has planned the water cut.

On Friday, there will be no water supply in Middle Class Society, Part One and Two, S. K. Bajaj and no water supply in Takka village, urban settlement on Saturday. On Sunday, water supply to all Newelkars will continue in Surli. On Monday, Market Yard, Vegetable Market, Pioneer Society, Thana Naka, Patel Park, Jain Mandir, Ganapati Mandir, Maveldar Kacheri, Dattaraj Society, Sathegalli, Virupaksha Mandir, Dhootpapeshwar Factory in most areas of the city will not have water supply. Water supply will be cut off in Patel Mohalla on Tuesday, HOC Colony area on Wednesday and Thana Naka area on Thursday
