Five newly launched CBSE schools run by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have received a poor response from parents, with only 228 applications submitted for 1,462 seats from Nursery to Class 1 after the admission process was delayed.

The new Mumbai Public Schools, located in Malad (two schools), Santacruz, Kandivali and Grant Road, were introduced for the 2026–27 academic year as part of the BMC's expansion of its CBSE education network. However, the schools received approval late, delaying the admission process to July 1–12, by which time many parents had already secured admissions for their children in other schools.

According to BMC officials, admissions were open for Nursery, Junior KG, Senior KG and Class 1. Of the total seats, only 43 applications were received for Nursery, 76 for Junior KG, 77 for Senior KG and 32 for Class 1.

The civic body said the delayed approvals from the Standing Committee affected the admission schedule this year. Officials added that from the next academic session, admissions for these schools will begin in January, in line with other BMC schools, giving parents sufficient time to apply.

BMC currently operates 19 CBSE-affiliated schools and has expanded the network with these five new institutions to provide free, quality education to students from economically weaker sections and other families across Mumbai.
