Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar, in view of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, has stated that the city might face another lockdown in order to safeguard the citizens.

Pednekar further stated that if not a complete lockdown, partial lockdown can be expected in areas with a high prevalence of COVID-19 cases. Meanwhile, cases of coronavirus in Mumbai has been witnessing a rise from the month of February due to which on March 9, Mumbai’s guardian minister Aslam Shaikh informed that a decision on imposing restrictions or lockdown in the metropolitan city will soon be taken by local authorities.

On the other hand, Thane’s civic body, Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) on March 9 announced a lockdown till March 31 amidst the rise in cases of coronavirus. According to reports, the lockdown is to remain in effect across 16 hotspots in the city. Moreover, all the restrictions that were in place during the nationwide lockdown declared earlier post the outbreak of the coronavirus would be in force this time as well. Later, they changed their stand and said there were only restrictions imposed and not a complete lockdown in these containment zones.

Moreover, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had earlier also hinted at the same adding that Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been instructed to take stern in order to curb the spread of the contagious disease.

Furthermore, he stated that the risk of coronavirus spread is increasing and one should not fear getting vaccinated. While the threat is increasing, the vaccine will only protect everyone from this disease as there are no side effects of the same.
