In a recently taken decision, the Brihnamumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will now send property tax details by e-mail, and to receive the same, taxpayers are requested to check the website for the same. The department has appealed to the citizens to update the required information in the KYC application, post which they will be able to receive the payment and other information as needed.

The decision has been taken to ensure hassle-free process and avoid delays in sending property tax bills, which has often been the case over the last many years. Citizens have complained about not receiving the bills on time, and this often leads to difficulties in collecting taxes.

However, this move by the BMC would help the ones in need as the team will send the details to the registered e-mails of the taxpayers in a timely manner.

Authorities inform that after the KYC details are updated, the property tax notification will be sent to the taxpayers via e-mail and SMS. This facility will be of great benefit both to the taxpayers as well as the municipal administration, as payments would be received on time helping one avoid penalties. Moreover, information about various schemes of the corporation will be sent on the registered mobile number via SMS and registered e-mail.

Information on future property tax plans will be available on time, along with the details of revised payments, if applicable.

Data reveals that property tax worth INR 1,200 crore has been collected till the first fortnight of January 2021. However, the collection department is facing several challenges of collecting revenue and has decided to collect INR 5,200 crore in the next two and a half months.
