As a part of the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR), SP Singla Constructions, which was constructing the now-collapsed bridge in Bihar, is currently building three bridges in Mumbai.
After the incident, former leader of the opposition in the BMC Ravi Raja of the Congress has written to municipal commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal and has sought cancellation of the contract awarded to SP Singla Construction for the construction of flyovers which are a part of the GMLR project.
He further alleged that it would be a great risk if the BMC were to allow such a company to construct its two flyovers on the GMLR.
The BMC should carry out an inquiry into the work carried out by the company so far, he demanded.
However, the BMC is confident that there won’t be any error because civic officials are constantly monitoring the work.
Additional municipal commissioner P Velrasu said that the GMLR works and the Bihar bridge works could not be compared as they were technically different.
SP Singla Construction Pvt. Ltd. was, on December 20, 2021, awarded a contract of INR 666.06 crores to build the flyovers. In the said proposal, the work of construction of the six-lane flyover bridge at Ratnagiri Hotel Chowk at Goregaon was mentioned, as was the construction of the flyover at Khindipada, Mulund, and another six-lane bridge at Dr Hedgewar Chowk were assigned to M/s S P Singala Construction Private Limited, for INR 66,60,67,800.
