On Thursday evening, September 9, the Mumbai Police announced imposing Section 144 of the CrPc in the city during Ganesh Chaturthi from September 10 to 19.

This decision has been taken in view of the COVID-19 situation in Mumbai. The order is issued from Mumbai Commissioner's office and will be applicable under the jurisdiction area Mumbai Police Commissionerate.

There should be no procession for the arrival of Ganesha idols. Also, more than five persons can't gather at a place, the Mumbai Commissioner's office stated in its order.

Moreover, according to a new order issued, there is also a ban on devotees taking darshan of Ganapati idols in pandals. All darshans have been shifted online.

Accordingly, the Mumbai civic body had issued fresh guidelines for the Ganpati festival.

For bringing the idols of the deity and during their immersion, there will not be more than 10 people in the processions of public mandals and not more than five for the household Ganpati's, the BMC said in its guidelines issued.

All devotees should wear masks and observe social distancing. All the participants should have taken both the doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and completed 15 days after taking the second dose, the guidelines said.

Besides, in the wake of a rise in the number of new coronavirus infections and fear of a third wave, the BMC has appealed to citizens to celebrate the festival with simplicity.

In addition, on Wednesday, Maharashtra's home department had issued a similar notice, restricting people from visiting pandals during Ganesh Chaturthi to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
