Firecrackers prohibited in Greater Mumbai area till January 31

Mumbaikars will not be able to burst firecrackers until Jan 31, 2023 as per the order issued by Mumbai Police. To prevent obstruction, inconvenience, annoyance, danger or damage to the public, prohibition has been put in place by the Mumbai Police on the sale of fireworks in the Brihanmumbai limits from December 24 to January 31, 2023.

In an order dated December 23, signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Vishal Thakur, it said, no person at any public place in the limits of Brihanmumbai shall sell, possess, offer, display, carry or expose for purpose of sale of any firecrackers/fireworks without licence granted by the Commissioner of Police or any other Police Officer designated by the Commissioner of Police or State Government to grant such licence.

The notice further read, this order will come in force from 24 December 2022 and end on 31 January 2023 3. Fireworks means explosives specified in fireworks in clause 7 of Explosive Rules of 1983.

In another issued order dated December 23, the police stated that no persons will let off or throw firecrackers or send up rockets within a distance of 500 metres beyond buffer zones of a bottling plant in the city from December 24 to January 31, 2023.

The police have also forbidden people from bursting crackers outside the Perimeter area of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd., and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Refinery, Mahul Terminal Area, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. BDU Plant Area, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. BDU Plant Area, and behind 15 and 50 acres area up to Special Oil Refinery.
