There has been an increase in public indecency and drug-related incidents on Mahim beach. This has created an atmosphere of concern among the locals.

In this regard, DCP Zone 5 Ganesh Gawade and Mahim Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Patil had called a special meeting of the local residents on Saturday, June 21.

The residents expressed their angst over repeated instances of couples engaging in inappropriate conduct along with the frequent presence of drug users, particularly during evening and nighttime hours. They also expressed concerns about public safety and the deterioration of the civic environment in the area.

DCP Gawade outlined a series of immediate interventions aimed at restoring order and enhancing public safety acknowledging the seriousness of the situation.

In the proposed action plan, two new entrances will be installed at Siyaposhwadi and another five near the Peer Dargah to better regulate entry.

Moreover, the beach entrance will now be officially closed to the public at 8:00 PM or 9:00 PM every day, a long-standing demand of the local residents to curb nuisance and criminal behaviour during the night.

DCP Gawade encouraged residents to be vigilant and use technology for enforcement. “If anyone sees an illegal act, they should record it using a GPS-enabled mobile camera. Photos with embedded location data (latitude, longitude, etc.) can serve as valuable and admissible evidence in legal proceedings,” he said.

The meeting marked a proactive step by the Mumbai Police to rebuild trust with the community and establish joint accountability in keeping Mahim Beach safe and family-friendly.
