Mumbai Police is responsible for traffic regulation on 10.4 km on Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu (MTHL), which is about 22 km long and the rest of the area will come under the jurisdiction of Navi Mumbai Police. A speed limit of 100 km has been imposed on this sea bridge and three-wheelers and two-wheelers are prohibited from crossing Atal Setu.


As Atal Setu starts from January 12, additional strength has been provided to Wadala, Pydhonie and Azad Maidan traffic police departments. However, at present there is no provision to exit from this bridge on Rafi Kidwai route and there is a high possibility of traffic congestion on the roads connecting to the bridge.


The Mumbai Police is responsible for traffic regulation of the 10 km 400 meter stretch on the Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu. Wadala Traffic Department will be entrusted with the responsibility of traffic regulation. Apart from this, the number of vehicles in the East Freeway and Azad Maidan area will also increase due to this bridge and additional traffic police have been provided to the three traffic posts. The remaining part will come under the jurisdiction of Navi Mumbai Police.

A speed limit of 100 kmph has been fixed on this bridge. Also, it is 40 km in the uphill and downhill sections. is going to be Three-wheelers and two-wheelers are prohibited on it. CCTV cameras have been installed on the bridge and thus it will be possible to monitor the traffic on Atal Setu from the control room of Mumbai Police. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has constructed this bridge for a comfortable journey from Mumbai to Konkan or Western Maharashtra and the cost of this project has gone up to 21 thousand 200 crores.


The work of the project has been completed and this sea bridge is being opened for traffic. To recover the cost incurred on the project, the authority has decided to levy road tax for about 30 years and for this purpose road toll booths will be erected at Shivajinagar and Chirle (Gavan) near Ulwe in Navi Mumbai. The part of Atal Setu from Mumbai is coming under Sewri police limits. The boundary of the area from Navi Mumbai will come to Nhava Sheva police.


There is a possibility of traffic jam in the beginning

Additional traffic police will be deployed on the routes leading to Sagari Setu at Azad Maidan, Pydhonie and Wadala for the first few days. But there is currently no provision for this bridge to exit on the Rafi Kidwai route. Therefore, there is a high possibility of traffic congestion on the roads connecting to the bridge for the first few days. During the construction of the Sewri-Worli flyover and Atal Setu connecting route, there is a plan to construct an exit from Rafi Kidwai Marg. After that, it will help reduce traffic congestion, sources said.
