The arrival of garlic in the APMC market is currently decreasing due to rains and due to this the prices are increasing. The rate is increasing day by day. At present, the price of Ooty garlic per kg in the wholesale market is INR 130-160 and country garlic is INR 115-125 and in the retail market it has reached INR 180-200.


New garlic starts arriving in January-February. Initially, satisfaction was expressed as the price of garlic was affordable. But since April the prices have started to increase due to decrease in inflow. In the month of March, garlic was priced between INR 50 and INR 80 in the retail market. But since the month of April, the price of garlic has been increasing steadily. At present, garlic has gone up to half a rupee in the wholesale market, Ooty garlic is selling at INR 130-160 and country garlic at INR 115-125, while the retail price has gone up to INR 200.

Garlic is imported from Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat in the wholesale market. On an average, 15 to 20 trucks of garlic arrive in the market during the season. But only 8 cars have entered the market on Tuesday. 1,219 quintals of garlic have arrived. This year the production of garlic is less.


The fall in garlic production due to rains is reducing market entry. Two years ago, production was reduced due to less area under garlic cultivation. Due to this, the prices of garlic skyrocketed. Two years ago, garlic was being sold at INR 200 to 250. The same situation is happening again this year. Last year in July, garlic was available at INR 40-80. But this time the situation of two years ago has arisen again. The rates are expected to tighten further in the next period. Last week, Ooty garlic was at INR 120-150 per kg while desi garlic was at INR 100-105. On Tuesday, Ooty garlic was selling at INR 130-160 and desi garlic at INR 115-125.


Onion-potato prices also increased

Inflow of Onion Potatoes is decreasing in APMC. At the same time, rain-soaked agricultural goods are entering. Due to this, the price of onion and potato has also increased by two to three rupees. On Tuesday, 87 trucks of onions and 36 trucks of potatoes arrived. The prices of onion has increased from INR 14-15 to INR 17-18 per kg, while potatoes prices soar to INR 12-14 from INR 9-12.
