Mumbai received heavy rainfall on Monday morning which has provided relief to Mumbaikars from the exhausting heat. As per the weather department, the heavy rainfall have returned in and around Mumbai from Friday. It has started raining again after a few days of rest. 

With heavy rainfall over the weekend, the Mumbaikars have been relieved from high temperatures and humidity. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had also forecasted heavy rains in some districts of Maharashtra. 

Mumbai and its suburbs witnessed intense rainfall in the month of September on Saturday and Sunday. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) recorded rainfall between 20 mm and 40 mm. The eastern and western parts of Mumbai witness highest rainfall. 

The IMD had earlier predicted light to moderate rain from north Maharashtrian coast to the coast of Kerala. The districts including Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg in Maharashtra have also received rainfall between 25 mm to 40 mm. 

During this monsoon season, Mumbai and its suburbs have witnessed record-breaking rainfall since June. The western and eastern suburbs of Mumbai have received more rainfall than any other district in the Konkan division. 

Earlier in August, Mumbaikars experienced torrential rains which broke many records since 1958. In August 1958, the Santa Cruz Observatory recorded 1,254 mm of rainfall. Meanwhile, in August 2020, the rainfall was recorded at 1,248 mm. However, this rain broke the record of 1244 mm of rainfall in August 1983.
