As heavy rainfall lashed the city of Mumbai, on Monday, July 19, local train services were heavily affected.

In view of the situation, Central Railways has informed that the tracks between Vikhroli and Kanjurmarg have been submerged. As a consequence, the services have been running at a slower pace. The situation is also crucial at Thane and Raigad, with Thane suspending the COVID-19 vaccinations until further notice.

Moreover, the Railways had informed that "Slow local train services suspended between Kalva and Mumbra railway stations due to waterlogging near Kalva. Fast local train services on Central Railway, Harbour railway, Trans-Harbour and Western Railway operational," Shivaji Sutar, chief public relations officer (CPRO), Central Railway, said.

According to reports, Mumbai had earlier clocked 235 mm rainfall in 24 hours until 8.30 am Sunday. Of this, 200 mm was recorded just six hours between 11.30 pm Saturday and 5.30 am Sunday. This instance made it the second extreme weather event to hit Mumbai in two days. In addition, the city recorded 253 mm rainfall on Friday. Meanwhile, the city has surpassed the average July rainfall in the first 18 days. The city has recorded 849.7 mm rain, while the average July rainfall is 827.5 mm.

On the other hand, road, rail and air traffic were also hit in the city, with the airport being shut for a few hours on Sunday morning and certain flights diverted. Furthermore, BEST buses along 118 routes were also diverted due to water-logging in 34 areas in the city.
