Mumbai Rains Update: Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai Schools Declare Holiday on July 9

While, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration has requests Mumbaikars to step out of homes only if required.

As incessant rains continues in the city for the past few hours, all schools and colleges in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan, Ratnagiri and other districts in Maharashtra have declared holiday.

While, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a orange alert for Mumbai, Palghar and Thane, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has declared holiday for all schools and colleges. Moreover, administration has requests Mumbaikars to step out of homes only if required.

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) declares a holiday in all schools in its limits for Tuesday. All govt and private schools to remain closed as per NMMC Education department's orders.

Additionally, all the schools till class 12 in Pune, Raigad, Ratnagiri districts have been declared holiday tomorrow. A red alert warning has been given in Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Satara, Raigad district.

It is pertinent to note that the Colaba observatory recorded 101.8 mm of rainfall in nine hours from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm on Monday, July 8. This is nearly seven times more than its suburbs in the same period. On the contrary, the Santacruz weather station recorded 14.8 mm of rainfall during this period.

Kundalika River in Maharashtra's Raigad and Kalu in Thane are nearing their danger mark amid ongoing heavy showers. Kundalika River has its warning level at 23 meters and it is flowing at 22.5 meters, while Kalu River has its warning level at 102 meters and is flowing at 101.1 meters
