The city residents have now complained that they are getting charged twice as much for their piped gas usage.

This incident comes days after a lot of chaos and protest that brought to the city and the state due to hefty electricity bills during the lockdown.

On Sunday, December 20, NGO Watchdog Foundation alleged that a few residents of a prominent residential complex in Powai got ‘inflated’ piped natural gas (PNG) bills in December.

The bills are up to three times the normal bi-monthly consumption said NGO personnel. He said a few members had approached him and he would take the case up with Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL).

The residents stated that some bills showed that while the normal consumption would be 14 units (scm), the October-November bill consumption was 47 units.

While MGL officials said they needed time to look on this matter.

The criticism has been going on for several weeks from many opposition parties as the electricity bill sent by the MSEDCL has raised worries for the consumers. The state government had earlier promised that the MSEDCL would offer a waiver and reduce the bills sent to the consumers during the lockdown. The proposal regarding the same was submitted to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray who was also positive on it. However, no final decision has been taken on the same.
