The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that Mumbai is most likely to experience a fall in temperature in Mumbai after Christmas, December 25.

This development came after the city clocked a significant spike of 3-4 degrees since Monday. It is pertinent to note that Mumbai recorded temperatures below 20 degree Celsius in the past week.

On Tuesday, December 19, minimum temperatures at IMD’s Santacruz recording station touched 23.7 degrees, six degrees above normal. Meanwhile, at the Colaba observatory, the minimum temperature was 19.4 degree Celsius, paralleling the season’s lowest temperature so far which was recorded on December 12.

Whereas the maximum temperatures hovered around 31-32 degree Celsius.

On Monday, December 18, the minimum temperatures in Santacruz touched 23.6 degrees while the Colaba coastal station registered 24 degree Celsius.

Besides, the air quality index in Mumbai was recorded in the moderate range for 2 days this week. According to the Meteorological Department, Mumbai will experience fog on Thursday and Friday; this is likely to affect the air quality.

IMD officials stated that after December 25, it is expecting a decrease in the temperature owing to the western disturbances as well as northerlies. However, until then the minimum temperatures will fall between the range of 21-22 degree.

As per experts, winter typically sweeps the bay around December 15 after the maximum temperatures start declining. However, last year, citizens found themselves grappling with high temperatures hovering around 35 degrees Celsius even until the last week of December.
