The sudden showers along with gusty winds and thunderstorms along with lightning in parts of Mumbai took the people by the surprise on late Wednesday night.

Following this unseasonal rains, parts of Mumbai were waterlogged. Roads in the areas surrounding the Western Express Highway (WEH) and Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road were waterlogged.

However, with this, Mumbai, which has been witnessing sweltering hot days for over a week got some respite.

The minimum temperature on Wednesday, April 12, dropped to 22.2 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius at Santacruz and Colaba observatory respectively. Meanwhile the maximum temperature was as low as 33.8 degrees Celsius at Colaba and 36.5 degrees Celsius at Santacruz.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD)’s Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Mumbai, forecasted the possibility of a rainfall spell in its five-day bulletin.

“Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning, with a light to moderate rain spell and gusty winds (30-40kmph) at isolated places are very likely for April 13,” the regional weather office said.

The regional weather office’s forecast also said that the next two days are also “very likely” to see rain showers with thunderstorms not just in Mumbai but across Maharashtra. However, Sunday, April 16, will see an exception as the unseasonal rain is likely to cease in Mumbai.

The weather Department has once again issued a rain warning to the state. Light / moderate rain with thunder/lightning is predicted for Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada during the next 5 days. Due to this, instructions have been given to the farmers to take care of their crops.

Moreover, there is a high possibility of hailstorm in Madhya Maharashtra on April 13-14.
