The Western Railways (WR) has converted six more 12-coach Mumbai local trains into 15-coach from today, March 27, in a bid to prevent overcrowding.
With the addition of extra coaches, the passenger capacity of each train will increase by 25 per cent. Moreover, it will also bring down cases of people falling off trains occasionally during rush hour.
In an official statement, the WR spokesperson explained that of these six trains, two will be on the fast line and remaining will be on slow line with three services each on both directions.
Here are the timings of trains converted on both Up and Down direction:
Up direction (towards Churchgate):
Virar to Andheri departing at 9.05 am on fast track
Nallasopara to Andheri departing at 5.53 pm on slow
Virar to Borivali departing at 7.55 pm on slow track
Down direction (towards Virar):
Andheri to Nallasopara departing at 10.13 am on fast line
Andheri to Virar local departing at 6.50 pm on slow
Borivali to Virar departing at 8.40 pm on the slow line
The new addition will take the total number of 15-car services on WR from 144 to 150. Meanwhile, there will be no change in the total number of services, which is 1383 services including 79 AC local trains, he added.
