Due to unruly traffic, lack of open footpaths for pedestrians, laxity in crossing the roads, the number of accidents in the state is increasing and the number of pedestrians losing their lives is in the thousands. Apart from layoffs, the death rate of pedestrians in road accidents is increasing and in the last six years, 14,972 pedestrians lost their lives in accidents in the state.

Roads in the state are becoming deadly for pedestrians. Despite various measures for the safety of pedestrians, the number of deaths in road accidents has not decreased. According to sources in the Highway Police Force, a total of 14,972 pedestrians lost their lives in accidents in the state during the five years from 2017 to 2022. In 2017, 1,822 pedestrians died, while in 2022, 2,894 pedestrians died.

There were 6,764 pedestrian accidents in the state in 2022. 2,833 of them were fatal accidents and 2,894 pedestrians died in it. 3,289 people were seriously injured in 2,952 serious accidents, while 1,049 pedestrians were slightly injured in 920 minor accidents. No one was injured in 59 accidents.

Although the roads in some places are wide, they are unsafe to cross. Therefore, pedestrians have to cross the road with their lives in hand while dodging speeding vehicles. In many places, traffic jams lead to long queues of vehicles. So drivers drive recklessly. Pedestrians also lose their lives due to their indiscipline. At the same time, accidents are also happening due to the negligence of pedestrians. Skywalks and subways are built in big cities to allow pedestrians to cross the road safely, but the number of people who use them is very low.
