Mumbaikars have demanded the cancellation of the Mumbai Eye project. There has been a demand for budgetary provision for cleaner air than the Mumbai Eye. Citizens have started an online petition demanding that the funds spent on the project be used for infrastructure or environmental needs.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed to build Mumbai Eye, a giant Ferris wheel on the lines of London Eye. This was decided in the budget of 2025-26. Now the search is on for a place where this Mumbai Eye can be set up.

Some citizens have opposed the project, demanding clean air in the city. Citizens have started an online petition demanding the BMC commissioner to cancel or stop the project and allocate budget for urgent environmental needs.

More than 2000 people have signed this online petition sent to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and BMC. These people are supporting the demands for priority in the budget for clean air, filling potholes, and improving public transport.

“Mumbai is facing serious problems like air pollution, floods, traffic congestion and inadequate public infrastructure. Roads are frequently dug up, dust and construction waste are increasing, which is increasing toxic substances in the air. Water fills during monsoon. The petition said that the problem of traffic is being ignored.

Instead of addressing these concerns, billions of rupees will be diverted to projects like giant Ferris wheels, which will become tourist attractions for some of the city's population, the petition said.

"Despite public outcry over budgetary priorities, the project, which is likely to cover 2-3 acres of land, is being pushed ahead without public consultation. This raises serious concerns about its environmental impact," the petition said.
