Mumbai is the first city to have WiFi connectivity in public places. Before the civic polls, 500 hotspots were activated. The 500 spots include tourist spots, railway stations, educational institutions and prominent junctions. Surprising news has been brought to the light which states that around 10% of the three lakh Mumbaikars who access free WiFi use it for sheer entertainment purpose. These Mumbaikars browse porn sites revealed Information Technology Department through statistics.
VK Gautam, Principal Secretary of state’s information technology department at the start of the service stated that the department has taken a lot of efforts to ensure people can’t access porn sites. The service provider (MTNL) is providing bandwidth with a speed of 20 Mbps.
On average, 30,000 of the three lakh daily WiFi users use it to watch porn videos. VK Gautam added that we can’t stop people from watching videos so in order to regulate that we have to refine the system on regular intervals.
