In a first of its kind, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) will be introducing valet parking services for private vehicles at its depots through an application.

This is likely to solve parking issues faced by several commuters on a daily basis in Mumbai.

Explaining further, officials stated that the app will show the nearest available parking spaces inside the BEST bus depots and will also provide the option to the citizens to select and reserve parking spaces in advance. The application is expected to be introduced by July end.

The transport undertaking is in the process of giving finishing touches to the mobile app, which will not only help book a parking slot for one’s car or bike but can also be used to make online payment.

The service will be provided in market areas close to depots and one can contact the attendants through an app and hand over their vehicle for parking. The attendants will bring back the vehicle when required.

The assistants will be made available and provided by the company that will operate and looks after the functions of the application.

This app will show the available parking space in a particular location and one can reserve the space and pay as per use, said Lokesh Chandra BEST general manager.

Across the 27 bus depots in the city, BEST will permit parking of two-wheeler, four-wheeler, auto-rickshaw, taxis, private cabs, trucks, and buses in its premises. The organisation charges fees on the parking areas up to three, six, 12, 24 hours and on a monthly basis as well.

As per the pay and park scheme of 2019, the parking charge for two-wheelers for up to three hours is ₹20 while the parking charge for four-wheelers for three hours is ₹30. The charge for parking two-wheelers for a month is ₹1320, while charges for four-wheelers is ₹3,080.
