In an unprecedented move, on Saturday, September 9, National Lok Adalat in Maharashtra, with 1,182 benches, successfully adjudicated 4, 97,271 cases -- 1,18,108 post-litigation and 379,163 pre-litigation cases -- worth INR 2587.88 crore.

As per officials, more than 1 lakh pre-litigation and post-litigation cases were disposed in Pune, the highest for any district in Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, reports stated that a National Lok Adalat in Mumbai held awarded over INR 722 crores by settling more than 12,000 cases. The cases included compoundable criminal offences, cheque bouncing, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT), Matrimonial, and other Civil cases as well as matters under the Payment and Settlement Act. One of the cases settled at Mumbai included a settlement amount of INR 2.32 crore. A total settlement amount of INR 722,82,71,891 was distributed to 12,472 cases.

At MACT, in Aurangabad, one matter was settled for INR 1.05 crore. 

In Beed District, one Civil Suit for declaration of ownership was pending since last 30 years was compromised between the parties in the Lok Adalat.

A warring Pune couple, after 20 years of litigation, settled their dispute and decided to reside together peacefully. In more than 424 matrimonial disputes settled at the Lok Adalat, the parties have decided to reside together peacefully.

The Lok Adalat was arranged by D.P. Surana, Member Secretary, Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). Chief Justice DK Upadhayaya is the Patron-in-Chief of MSLSA; A Subramaniam, Principal Judge, City Civil and Sessions Court and Chairperson of the Mumbai District Legal Services Authority; M.R.A. Shaikh, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Esplanade; and A.K. Deshmukh, Secretary of the District Legal.
