The Navi Mumbai RTO has taken action against more than 2000 helmetless bike riders and suspended the licences of 1076 persons in the six months from April to September.


The number of vehicles in Navi Mumbai city is increasing rapidly. But along with that, the number of traffic rule breakers is also increasing. Day by day the number of vehicular accidents is increasing in the state and most of them are of two wheelers and the number of deaths due to not wearing a helmet is also high. Therefore, the Supreme Court has ordered helmets to be compulsory, however bikers ignore this order.

Strict action has been ordered against those travelling without helmets in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai from this week and their licence will also be suspended. Navi Mumbai RTO has started an even more intensive campaign and already a total of 3 thousand 938 vehicles have been inspected between April and September. Meanwhile, 2 thousand 371 two-wheeler drivers have been found travelling without helmets. 11 lakh 45 thousand rupees have been recovered by taking penal action against them. The RTO has informed that the licence of 1 thousand 76 people has been suspended.
