Recently, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) put up a few new traffic signals at Vashi’s APMC market, in which the numbers that are put up on the countdown timers show up in Marathi, stated reports.

This will be the first time that motorists in Navi Mumbai will witness traffic signals wherein the countdown numbers will be displayed not in English, but a regional language. This is believed to be undertaken on a trial basis, stated NMMC officials to comprehend the feasibility of such a system.

According to a report by the Hindustan Times, an electric department senior official elaborated on how the new signals were installed a few days earlier. Therefore, now they are waiting to see the response from the public.

If many complain about them, it could be removed, the official mentioned. Adding that there aren’t any plans in the pipeline to put up additional traffic signals in other parts of the city.

Based on accounts, whilst some residents have appreciated this move, some have criticized it. The narrative also mentioned the city traffic department’s claim on how it wasn’t informed, nor was its opinion sought before the installation of the signals.
