Mumbai traffic police are slated to put up over 100 nakabandi check-posts throughout the city on Friday, December 31 to check on traffic violations that also include drunk driving, reports stated.

According to accounts, DCP traffic elaborated on how a force of 56 officers and 500 constables will be on duty on the streets in the western suburbs on Friday. Adding that an awareness campaign will be put outside public places such as beaches, malls, railway stations and departmental stores urging people to not drink and drive. Further, a "safe driving" mascot will be at the said locations from 6 pm to midnight.

Based on narratives, with breathalysers not allowed owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, it will be arduous for the officers to take suspected drunk driving cases to the hospital for blood-alcohol tests. However, a senior official was quoted by reports elaborating on how this doesn't mean they will go easy on offenders.

Thirty-five nakabandi check-points will be put up in the western suburbs on New Year's eve, cited accounts. The officer elucidated on how all COVID-19 protocols will be adhered to.

Those following the traffic rules will be appreciated and gifted keychains with the traffic department's emblem. On the other hand, those who are flouting the rules will be given wristbands that ask them to adhere to the rules henceforth.
