On Thursday, December 30, Mumbai Police stated that all police holidays, as well as weekly holidays, have been cancelled for Friday, December 31. Considering this, every police officer posted in Mumbai will be on duty, reported news agency ANI.

The police received information that Khalistani elements could conduct terrorist attacks in Mumbai, thus, the police have been on alert. In light of this, Quaiser Khalid, Commissioner of Police, Mumbai Railway elaborated that “In view of the alert in Mumbai, tight security has been deployed at the major stations of Mumbai, Dadar, Bandra Churchgate, CSMT, Kurla and other stations. Tomorrow more than 3000 railway officers will be deployed”.

Apart from this, considering the rising COVID-19 cases in the city, the Mumbai Police has introduced prohibitory orders under CrPC section 144 from December 30 to January 7. Therefore, New Year celebrations that include parties in closed or open spaces in restaurants, hotels, bars, pubs, resorts and clubs have been prohibited from December 30 to January 7.

Moreover, public places in Mumbai have also been shut on December 31. Additionally, the “Bandra Wonderland” located at Bandra reclamation has been closed for visitors from Thursday, December 30 to Sunday, January 2 in the backdrop of the fear of the new variant, Omicron.
