Mumbai's "Bandra Reclamation-Bandra Wonderland" has been closed for visitors from Thursday, December 30 to Sunday, January 2, amid the rising COVID-19 cases in the city, reports stated.

Earlier, crowds would flock to the Bandra Reclamation location which is lit for the New Year, in spite of the COVID-19 restrictions in the city. People can now, however, view the lights while they are passing by the Bandra - Worli sea link or the Promneade garden, mentioned the notification.

Additionally, the Mumbai Police has introduced prohibitory orders under CrPC section 144 in the island city from December 30 to January 7, in light of the Omicron scare. New Year celebrations in the city that include parties in closed or open spaces in restaurants, hotels, bars, pubs, resorts and clubs have been prohibited from December 30 to January 7, based on the new orders.

According to accounts, all public places in the island city will be closed on December 31. Apart from this, strict action will be taken against those establishments that flout the COVID-19 guidelines during the New Year Celebrations. Those establishments that violate the regulations will also be sealed for the next few months.

The Bandra Wonderland initiative was supported by Reliance Jio and the MSRDC that witnessed a significant amount of crowd, despite the COVID-19 restrictions put in place.

Many citizens had also taken to social media to voice their discontent about the event which according to them had become a hotspot wherein social distancing norms were thrown for a toss, accounts cited.
