On Sunday, January 17, Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorized fresh directions to its clean-up marshals asking them not to fine commuters who are not wearing face masks inside their private vehicles.

However, the commuters travelling in private vehicles like autos or local trains, have to continue wearing their face masks or they will be penalized. This comes after several passengers reportedly complained after getting fined by the clean-up marshals of the civic body for not wearing masks inside their private cars.

Earlier, on Saturday, the state health department denied reports that it has paused the vaccination drive for the coronavirus for two days due to a glitch in the Co-WIN app. Moreover, the health authorities clarified that no such drive was planned on January 17-18 and they will continue from the next week as per the Central government's guidelines.

Meanwhile, according to reports, the BMC had earlier stated that the COVID-19 vaccination drive was temporarily suspended till January 18 due to technical glitches in the Co-WIN App. The application happens to be a real-time online platform developed by the Union Health Ministry that provides information about the drive.
