The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has received no bids for its global expression of interest (EOI) floated last week for procurement of 1 crore vaccine doses.

The last day for accepting queries from interested bidders was Sunday, May 16, and the deadline was till 3 pm on May 18. However, as of Monday afternoon, the civic body had not received a single bid.

Therefore, the civic body is likely to extend the last date for participation in the tender floated for procurement of COVID-19 vaccine from the international market. The final decision on the same will be taken on Tuesday evening, May 18.

The BMC has planned to procure 10 million vaccine doses from the international market in order to speed up the drive in the city. Hence, on May 12, BMC became the first municipal corporation in the country to float a global tender for the purchase of vaccines.

The civic body gave bidders six days to respond. As per the tender condition, bidders were supposed to send their queries related to the tender by May 16. Officials from the BMC have hinted that the civic body may extend the deadline.

According to BMC’s tender document, China has been restricted from bidding. Further, the vaccines that do not have Centre’s approval will have to get the same on their own.

This decision has been taken as Maharashtra is currently facing a shortage of COVID-19 vaccines. Due to this, the vaccination drive for those in the 18-44 years age group has also been suspended for now. The priority is being given to those taking their dose and are above 45 years.
