According to a report by the Times of India, a long-pending proposal mooted by elected representatives of Mumbai is all set to get approved at the next cabinet meeting following the collapse of the Bhanushali building in the fort last week.

A five-storey building by the name Bhanushali collapsed amidst heavy downpour near the Lucky House in south Mumbai’s Fort area. As this happened, the personnel from the disaster management and fire brigade rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government had announced funding of ₹4 lakhs each for the families of deceased in Fort building collapse incident which had claimed 10 lives.

The proposal, prepared by a committee of eight MLAs, has been awaiting approval since Prithviraj Chavan was the Chief Minister. Jitendra Awhad, Housing Minister, further added that the proposal could be passed in the next cabinet meeting.

Some of the recommendations in the proposal include automatic cancellation of a NOC which roughly translates to a no-objection certificate if he fails to complete the project within three years. Moreover, a six-month opportunity will be permitted to the landowner along with another six months to the tenants to complete the project. If they fail to do so, the project will be taken over by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) which will appoint a contractor in order to complete the project.
