Mumbai Records 1,115 Fresh COVID-19 Cases, Death Toll Reaches 6,090

According to the BMC, Dharavi has recorded only two new coronavirus positive cases in the past 24 hours.

Mumbai recorded 1,115 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday, taking the total tally of the city to 1,09,096. With 57 deaths in the past 24 hours, the death toll has touched 6,090. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the city’s recovered cases have reached 80,238, with an addition of 1,361 patients being discharged in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, there are 22,768 active patients across the city so far.

The BMC said that on Sunday, only two more patients tested positive for the infection in Dharavi, taking the figures to 2,531. As per the civic body, Dharavi has reported 113 active cases so far and 2,168 patients have been discharged post recovery.

The city’s Dadar area reported 29 more coronavirus positive cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the area to 1,618. While a total of 1,078 people have been discharged so far, there are 467 active cases in the area. Its neighbouring Mahim area also reported 22 new cases, taking the total number of infected cases to 1,605. At least 1,315 patients have recovered in the region while 220 are currently undergoing treatment.

Mumbai’s neighbouring city of Navi Mumbai reported 338 new cases of coronavirus, along with 10 deaths. Meanwhile, the Palghar district has a total of 13,817 cases in the region, along with 265 deaths so far.

After a 40-year-old constable and a 42-year-old constable posted at the Wadala Truck Terminal (WTT) police station succumbed to the virus on Sunday, the death toll of the Mumbai Police personnel grew to 54. On Sunday, Minister of State for Environment, FDA Sanjay Bansode also said that he has been tested positive for coronavirus and is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Mumbai.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra have reached 3,75,799, with a single-day hike of around 9,431 cases on Sunday. The state reported 267 new deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the death toll to 13,656. As per the health department, the state's recovery rate now stands at 56.74 per cent, while the fatality rate is at 3.63 per cent.
