In a busy city like Mumbai, eating Vada Pav at any time of the day or night satisfies the hunger of many. Moreover, Vada Pav has always been the cheapest and easiest food to consume as it is available for mere rupees and loved by everyone.

However, in a grave news for Mumbaikars, it has come to light that now Vada Pav is likely to get costlier by year end. The Vada Pav sellers haven’t increased the cost yet owing to festive season; but, the price of Vada Pav is expected to increase by INR 3-4 approximately.

This move came as the price of the humble pav has now gone up to INR 5 a piece from INR 3.50-4 in 2021. Meanwhile, this year, the cost of sliced bread had also increased twice.

Bakeries and suppliers have raised rates by 50 paise to a rupee per piece as recently as October. They say all input costs have spiralled recently.

If reports are to be believed, tetailers in Andheri Lokhandwala and Bandra-Khar are now charging INR 5 apiece up from INR 4, Vile Parle INR 4 up from INR 3 whereas Mahim and Nagpada are levying INR 3 as compared to INR 2.50 earlier.

Meanwhile, bakeries that sell their own pav and supply to other shops in the vicinity are forced to raise rates at their own outlets too. And those pav manufacturers who are not increasing rates for fear of losing buyers are reducing the size and weight of each piece.
