Central Railway: No waterlogging on tracks this monsoon

Indian Railways have started pre monsoon preparations so that the railway traffic is not affected during the rainy season. Cleaning of drains, cleaning of culverts, lifting of tracks, installation of pumps at waterlogged places etc. are in progress.

The drains that are made in the middle of the track to remove the water accumulated on the track during monsoons often cause the problem of garbage or plastic getting stuck. To avoid this, the railways have now decided to install iron nets. Shivaji Sutar, Chief Public Relations Officer, Central Railway, said that netting in the middle of the track will help in drainage of water. In addition, water runoff into the ocean, which carries a lot of plastic and other waste, will also be reduced.

Sutar said that many times the garbage increases to such an extent that the drainage channels in culverts etc. are blocked and the level of waterlogging on the tracks increases. Central Railway is currently working on laying a network between Dadar and CSMT in the suburban area. This work has already been done at Byculla, Chunabhatti and Chinchpokli.
