Mumbai Goa Highway one lane of the Kashedi tunnel on the Mumbai-Goa highway has been opened for traffic and one lane on this highway will also be opened for traffic before Ganpati, Public Works Minister Ravindra Chavan assured on Monday. He also expressed his belief that the removal of major traffic bottlenecks on this highway will bring great relief to those going for Ganapati in Konkan.
Before Ganapati, Chavan had announced in the legislature to open the Kashedi tunnel and one route on this highway. It used to take about 45 minutes to an hour to cross the 9 km long Kashedi Ghat between Poladpur and Khed on this highway. But now a two kilometer tunnel has been constructed in this area and one of them was opened for traffic in the presence of Chavan. Due to this tunnel, the ghat can now be crossed in just 15 minutes, saving time for passengers.
All the employees of the Public Works Department working day and night on a war footing have succeeded in opening this tunnel for traffic before Ganesha, so the journey of the Konkanites going to the village for Ganeshotsav will be a pleasant one. Minister Chavan said that he was satisfied that he could fulfill his promise to the people of Konkan. On this occasion tree plantation was done in the presence of officials of Chavan and Konkan Development Committee as well as officials of the Public Works Department. More than 90 percent of the work on one stretch of the Mumbai-Goa highway has been completed. In any case, this route will be opened for traffic before Ganpati, Chavan also said.
