The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an red and orange alert indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of Maharashtra.

An orange alert has been issued for MumbaiThane, Palghar and Raigad districts tomorrow, July 27. Meanwhile, Ratnagiri, which recorded an average 104 mm rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 10 am, is very likely to witness very heavy rainfall issuing a red alert.  

Besides Mumbai, the orange alert was issued for Pune, Kolhapur and Satara districts.

In its five-day forecast, the IMD has the intensity of rain is expected to reduce at isolated places during the next two days.

A yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar for Friday, July 28, while it may further reduce to "moderate" on July 28. However, an orange alert will be continued in Raigad and Ratnagiri for the next two to three days.

Moreover, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that in the wake of heavy rains over the last few days, the Tansa and Vihar lakes, the key sources of potable water for Mumbai, started overflowing today. This has infuriated flood warnings in Thane

Out of the seven reservoirs that supply water to Mumbai, the Vihar, Tansa and Tulsi lakes have overflown so far.
