Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has ordered the Revenue Administration to immediately cancel birth and death certificates and records issued solely based on Aadhaar cards, or those found suspicious, and to file a police complaint. He further stated that the Aadhaar card will no longer be accepted as a valid document for issuing delayed birth certificates.
The government says the move aims to curb the use of fake birth and death certificates for illegal activities.
This campaign will be particularly focused in Amravati, Sillod, Akola, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar City, Latur, Anjangaon Surji, Achalpur, Pusad, Parbhani, Beed, Gevrai, Jalna, Ardhapur, and Parli. These certificates will be scrutinized based on 16 points. Special meetings will be held to resolve the issues. Orders issued for birth and death certificates using only Aadhaar cards as proof will be considered invalid. If any discrepancy is found between the information provided in the application and the date of birth on the Aadhaar card, a case will be filed against the individual.
The circular also states that beneficiaries who do not return the original certificates or who are no longer traceable should be listed, declared "absconders," and FIRs should be filed against them. Instructions have been given to recall and cancel birth and death registration orders issued by Naib Tehsildars after the amendment of August 11, 2023.
Since immediate action is required on the pending applications suspended in the state, all concerned offices should be checked, and action should be taken in accordance with the rules issued by the Public Health Department. Also, those that are not as per this SOP should be cancelled immediately, and the entry on the Civil Registration System (CRS) portal should be deleted immediately, the guidelines said.
