COVID-19: Over 100 Employees At JJ Hospital Test Positive In A Week, Over 300 Resident Doctors Infected In City

According to reports, at the state-run JJ Hospital over 100 COVID-19 infections have been reported in the past week, additionally, over 300 resident doctors across Mumbai's medical colleges are presently infected and are thus in isolation. At JJ Hospital in Byculla, 73 resident doctors, 21 faculty members that include the institute's dean and many staffers from Class 3 and 4 tested positive. 

On the other hand, even many of those patients who were hospitalized for non-COVID-19 ailments have also tested positive. If accounts are to be believed, the case numbers are so high that positive employees from JJ itself have filled its wards at St George and GT, its affiliated hospitals. 

JJ Hospital's authorities have elaborated on how a separate ward has been made at GT Hospital to accommodate the resident doctors, claimed reports. Officials from the BMC are believed to closely monitor the JJ situation. 

On Wednesday, January 5, the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) stated that all civic-operated medical colleges in Mumbai are witnessing a rapid surge in numbers. Data collected by them depicts that 73 resident doctors were infected at JJ, 45 in BYL Nair, 60 at KEM, 80 at Sion Hospital and seven in RN Cooper. 

They further highlighted that eight cases were reported from Rajiv Gandhi Medical College in Thane, government colleges in Dhule, Miraj, Nagpur and Aurangabad have cumulatively reported 18 cases. MARD demands that resident doctors be given enough time to recover and be offered foremost medical assistance.
