On Wednesday, January 5, officials stated that 66 employees from Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) have tested positive for COVID-19 since December 27, mentioned reports.

According to accounts, officials have elaborated that six were discharged on late Tuesday, December 4, evening. This included drivers as well as conductors who are on frontline duties.

Based on narratives, BEST chief medical officer Dr Anil Kumar Singal elucidated how 60 per cent of the COVID-19 cases were detected since they undertook RT-PCR tests at their depots. Added that they have ensured adequate treatment was provided to all the employees who tested positive.

Singal remarked that hospital beds were also kept ready for emergency situations. Moreover, according to Singal, BEST has been conducting daily monitoring of its staff who have comorbidities. Apart from this, even those who have low immunity or have been admitted to a hospital earlier for COVID-19 are also being monitored by the body.

Singal believes that while there had no cases in early December, cases are now being reported amid the third wave of coronavirus

In other developments, the Maharashtra government will instead put in force additional restrictions to fight the rise in COVID-19 cases and Omicron variant. It is anticipated that the government will issue fresh guidelines by Wednesday, January 5, night, claimed reports.
