In order to facilitate urban space management and increase revenue, Western Railway has awarded the first parking cum-stacking contract at Bandra Terminus in Mumbai Central division. The facility, located under the elevated road near the station, officially became operational on July 12.
The move was taken in view of the increasing demand for locally organised parcel storage at Bandra Terminus, due to its proximity to major wholesale and retail markets and nearby commercial centres. The facility offers both vehicle parking and storage space.
The contract, awarded through e-tendering, covers a total area of 3735.02 sq m. Out of which 3362.02 sq m has been earmarked for vehicle parking and 373 sq m for parcel stacking.
The facility, which is now operational, will run till July 11, 2028, earning the railways an annual licence fee of INR 1,52,31,313. This represents a 145.7% increase over the previous parking agreement value of INR 62,00,674 per annum.
