Taking into account that there is less space for pedestrians to walk on the footpath and owing to the fact that 51 per cent of people who lose their lives in road accidents are pedestrians, the Pedestrian Safety Cell is planning to address these problems and find a solution to it.

Further, people walk on the road than footpaths as hawkers and vendors occupy the place. As stated in DNA, an urban designer said that there are discussions regarding removing the railing borders on the footpath as people prevent walking on it as they never know when the railings would end and people will land up walking on the road.
