While the number of deadly incidents on railway tracks observed a decrease, the deaths from falling off Mumbai’s local trains  noted an increase. In the year 2017, as 654 people died from falling off the local trains. However, the number rose by 61 in the year 2018 with almost 711 people died falling off the running trains. 

The report carried out by the railway authorities states that the death incidents on railway tracks in 2017 were 3,014. In 2018, the numbers reduced to 2,981. According to the report, of the 711 people who died from falling off the trains, 482 died in central railways while 229 died in western railways.

Of the 2,981 people who died on railway tracks, 691 died while crossing the same, 35 people committed suicide, and 184 people died hitting the pillars on the tracks. The railway has decided to run slow locals with 15 coaches to reduce chaos at railway stations.
