South Mumbai’s iconic Flora Fountain will once again function by the next week as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to inaugurate the grade 1 heritage structure on January 24.

The fountain was not functional due to wear and tear for almost a decade. For now, only phase one of the restored fountain will be inaugurated, while beautification works around the fountain is expected to take two more months for completion.

In September 2016, the BMC began restoring the fountain, and after almost three years, the Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee (MHCC) gave the green signal for the project. A civic official said that the fountain will be kept functional throughout the day. He further added that grilles have been put around the fountain to ensure that no one enters the area or damages the structure.

It is believed that Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar and Yuva Sena Chief Aaditya Thackeray will inaugurate the fountain.
