Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on January 22, 2022, expressed sorrow on the deaths in the building fire at Tardeo in Mumbai. He conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for quick recovery of the injured.

Sharing more details, he also approved ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF to be given to the next of kin of those who have lost their live. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000 each. The Prime Minister Office took to Twitter with a message that read, "Saddened by the building fire at Tardeo in Mumbai. Condolences to the bereaved families and prayers with the injured for the speedy recovery: PM @narendramodi."

As per reports, seven people were announced dead and at least 19 others were said to be injured in the massive fire that broke out in the morning on Saturday, January 22, 2022, in a 20-storey building located in South Mumbai's Tardeo area. Officials informed that the the fire broke out at approximately 7.30am on the 18th floor of the Kamala building situated near Bhatia Hospital. Rescue teams rushed to the spot to control the situation and the concerned department announced it to be a level 3 fire incident.

 Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray visited the site and said that the state government would be giving an ex-gratia amount of INR 5 lakhs to the families of victims who lost their lives.
