After delivering a child, it becomes a bit difficult for a woman to resume her duty in office, as the newborn asks more of their mother's attention. In such a situation, either she has to carry her baby to her workplace or leave the child at her in-law's mercy.

The police department has decided to take a different approach and henceforth, new mothers in the Mumbai police force will be able to do a side posting till their baby turns two.

The Police Commissioner agreed to this considering the hectic work and grueling bandobast duty hours, a policewoman has to undergo.

Apart from this, gynecologists and experts believe that it is important that a mother should spend more time with their newborn babies.

Before the decision, police commissioner Datta Padsalgikar called for a meeting with his colleagues who unanimously decided that women in the police force should get an option of working at the desk with fixed working hours till their child turns two. To do the following, women police constables will be required to write to the police commissioner.
