Based on a report by PTI, a senior official has stated that the state is formulating a vacation rental home policy, considering that the priorities of tourists have changed owing to the coronavirus. They prefer staying in comfortable residences as opposed to hotel rooms.

At an event organized by the IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, state’s Principal Secretary (Tourism) Valsa Nair Singh stated that the policy hopes to govern the trade of vacation homes by an approval visit from police and government officials to curtail the threat of unsuspicious tourists being swindled, cited the report.

She said that from several parts of the state there is a demand for the said homes, where people want to stay in a built but unused outlying home, instead of hotels.

Whilst there are platforms where properties are listed, adding them there have witnessed incidents of overcharging where fake apps charge for properties that do not exist that, tourists only realise when they reach the destination.

Additionally, the tourism department is also hoping to curate a caravan parking bay at the basis of Raigad Fort. For the same, many entrepreneurs have come forward.

Along Maharashtra’s coastline, shacks are hoped to be made by October since there has been action on the beach shack policy.

According to her, the response to the agro-tourism policy has been better than expected, with the government making it compulsory for educational establishments to conduct outings in such regions.

The state has been marketing its tourism avenues, for the past few months.
